Competitive Swim Team

The Sleepy Hollow swim team is a competitive team for swimmers ages 4 to 18. The goal of the team is to provide a positive, competitive environment, foster Legend Pride and prepare the swimmers for the season-ending championship meets. Sleepy Hollow provides some of the best stroke technique training in the county. Along the way, swimmers learn several life-long lessons in commitment, hard work, goal setting, team spirit and sportsmanship.

  • Swim Team Commitment

Swimmers are expected to attend practice on a regular basis beginning in the spring, commit to the team process, and compete in as many meets as possible.

Team Description:

The Mini Legend program is a pre-team program for kids ages 4-6. This is a bridge program between the learn-to-swim program (where kids develop the foundations of swimming and water safety) and the competitive swim team (where kids develop the competitive strokes and compete in meets). Mini Legends is a developmental program for children who already have mastered basic swimming skills and meet the minimum qualifications.

Coaches consider whether a swimmer is ready for the Mini Legend program based on:

  • Should be at least 4 years old.
  • Is able to swim unassisted with breathing.
  • Is water safe and comfortable in deep water.

Team Description:

Swimmers must be 5 or 6 years old and must be able to swim the length of the pool using big arms and side breathing. Swimmers need to be strong enough to swim multiple laps in a workout setting and keep up with the group. Must be able to kick 1 lap with a kickboard under 60 seconds. Swim practice is a workout and multiple laps will be swum with proper instruction from the deck (i.e., no coaches in the water).

Team Description:

Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of catch-up with proper side breathing. Must be able to kick 25 yards on back. Must be strong enough to swim multiple laps during the course of a practice.

Matt Ehrenberger

Head Age Group Coach

Matt joined Sleepy Hollow back in 1994. He came from the Pinole Seals where they had just won seven straight county championships. Along with Ron Heidary they transformed Sleepy Hollow into one of the top programs in the county. In addition, they started Orinda Aquatics year-round team and Polarbears Fall swimming at Sleepy Hollow.

Matt is the head age group coach with Orinda Aquatics. Matt’s coaching and commitment has been, and will always be, a very important part of Sleepy Hollow’s success (3 county meet wins & 6 OMPA titles). Matt and Tisha have three children: Justin, Nathan, and Bailey.

Tony Ravnik

Swim Coach & Pool Manager

Tony began his swimming career as an OCC Shark swimming competitively in their program for thirteen years. Today, Tony is a true blue Sleepy Hollow Legend and we have been fortunate to have had him as a swim coach and Pool Manager since 2009. All in, he has twenty-one years of Learn-to-Swim and competitive swim lesson coaching and teaching experience. In 2007, Tony began coaching in the OMPA. Meadow was lucky enough to have him as their Head Coach for two years in 2007 and 2008.

Prior to Meadow, he was the Aquatics Director at the Claremont Country Club in Oakland from 2005-2007. Bishop O’Dowd also benefited from his coaching expertise for seven years as their Head Swimming and Water Polo Coach (2001-2007). Keeping things local, Tony also coached three seasons for Campolindo High School Swimming between 2010-2012. In addition to his coaching position with Sleepy Hollow, Tony currently coaches the Fall Polar program with Orinda Aquatics. Tony graduated from UC Davis in 2000 with a B.A. in Communication.

 Beth Rodrigues

Assistant Head Coach

Beth first joined Sleepy Hollow back in 1994 with Matt, swimming her final year as a Legend and coaching for a total of 7 seasons. Specializing in 10 & unders, Beth coached all age groups (even masters) and all workouts by the time of her departure in spring of 2001. After a journey as an educator, getting married, and having a son, Beth felt compelled to return to her Sleepy Hollow roots and, in 2015 she returned along with her 3 year old LeoMax to begin his Legend career. Beth has a husband named Dino and lives to coach the Sleepy Hollow Way!

Assistant & Junior Coaches

Every year, Sleepy Hollow enlists the help of former and current Sleepy Hollow swimmers as assistants and junior coaches.  We are fortunate to have so many outstanding young adults eager to share their love for this team and willing to give back to this team.  These coaches are leaders and role models and their enthusiasm, patience and LEGEND PRIDE are a valuable asset to the coaching staff and the entire team.
